Brinda Vittal - ECG Management Consultants (MHA '27)

 Hello from Chicago!

My name is Brinda, and this summer I’ve had the opportunity to intern with ECG Management Consultants, a healthcare consulting firm that works with hospitals, health systems, pharmaceutical companies, and physician groups. I’m based in ECG’s Chicago office, where I’m part of the Health Systems Performance team. I work closely with project teams to support financial modeling and data analytics for client engagements.

My preceptor, Katie, has been an incredible mentor throughout the summer. She’s helped me build both the technical and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in consulting, while giving me the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful client work. I’ve contributed to financial models in Excel, developed client-facing documents, and created presentations.
One of my primary projects has been an overnight staffing assessment for a health system in Colorado. I analyzed whether the health system’s OB/GYN department had sufficient overnight provider coverage relative to patient demand by evaluating OB emergency department census data and comparing day- and night-shift volumes across deliveries, gynecologic urgent cases, and emergency department consults. Using these analyses, I helped build the case for the appropriate levels of overnight staffing needed to meet patient demand. 


I also had the opportunity to travel to the East Coast for a project with an academic medical center focused on physician and enterprise assessment following the organization’s restructuring of its leadership and ambulatory care model. Visiting the client on-site gave me a much deeper understanding of how a large academic health system operates day-to-day. It was one of the highlights of my summer and gave me the chance to experience another side of the consulting process beyond Excel and PowerPoint.

Outside of work, I’ve tried to make the most of everything Chicago has to offer. I’ve spent many weekends exploring new restaurants and discovering coffee shops around the city, which has become one of my favorite ways to unwind after a busy week. I also traveled to attend a friend’s wedding this summer, where it was great to reunite with family and friends from my hometown of St. Louis.

As my internship ends soon, I’m looking forward to making the most of the time I have left in Chicago!

CGH Medical Center is progressive acute care facility that has been serving the community since 1909. Jashan Gill (MHA '24): University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics - Ambulatory Care Operations

Hello from Iowa City!  I spent my summer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, completing my administrative internship in Ambulatory Care Operations. Ambulatory Care consists of around 20 areas, with generally the most complex conditions being treated on the main campus. The team is comprised of approx. 1,200 FTEs, most of whom provide direct care or support for in-person visits. The main campus clinics provide post-visit support for encounters that occur at Iowa River Landing (IRL) and the community clinics. This area is responsible for more than 1 million in-person primary encounters per year and additionally provides secondary services including procedures and ancillary visits. Meg Yellepeddi- Deloitte (MHA '26)

   Hello from Chicago, Illinois!   I am currently in a 10-week internship as a Summer Associate with Deloitte, a consulting firm that provides healthcare consulting services. My first week was filled with onboarding events for Summer Associates, where I had the privilege of meeting and learning about peers from across the United States. These sessions offered a crash course in core consulting skills, great food, and plenty of opportunities to network with Deloitte consultants and leaders, setting a strong foundation for the summer ahead. After onboarding, I joined a project with a large regional health system that was undergoing an Epic implementation to transform its clinical and operational processes.
