Shannon McGlynn - Revology (MHA '26)

 Hello from Iowa!

This summer I have had the amazing opportunity to work as the executive intern at Revology, located right in the heart of downtown Iowa City. Revology is a tech-enabled revenue cycle management company that works hard every day to help hospitals and health care providers to collect their earnings at a more efficient rate. With the help of the company’s AI system, Auxo, the team is able to bring a new level of innovation to revenue cycle management, giving me a great insight into how technology is advancing the healthcare field at such a rapid and exciting rate.

Alongside the company’s impressive technology and deeply rooted dedication to the revenue cycle, Revology has been built on a strong foundation of hard working team members that not only show up everyday to achieve amazing results for their clients and propel the company to success, but show up to support one another in every endeavor. Chris Klitgaard and Rachel Trevizo, Revology’s CEO and COO respectively, are my preceptors this summer and their leadership has been an amazing example to learn from. No matter who I meet, it is always evident that a strong team-oriented mindset is a central point of this company.

One of the first weeks of my internship, the company’s executive team, a group consisting of eight hard working professionals, flew into Iowa City to discuss many key aspects of the company over a three-day period. In these meetings, I was quickly exposed to new areas of learning such as business and contract acumen, vendor-client relations, and the inner workings of healthcare sales. I was also able to enhance my knowledge on areas I had some background in, like revenue cycle and hospital KPIs. It was so interesting getting to experience company deliberations first-hand, and seeing how the team honestly talked through every topic in order to make sure they were making the best decisions for both the clients and the company.

So far, one of the projects I have already gotten involved in included writing and editing job descriptions to be listed online and help the team grow and acquire new talent. I also got to participate on an interview panel to aid in the hiring process of a new company manager. I have also started the process of working on a team that is redesigning and restructuring Revology’s provider auditing and education training and have recently begun the process of creating and standardizing a workflow that can help fill in gaps that are occurring with the provider credentialing process, which is an important aspect of the revenue cycle.

Amazing view of Iowa City from my desk!

My largest project for this summer is focusing on client reporting. Client reports are a very key aspect of this company, as they are a pivotal piece of communication that allows the client to fully understand their growth and the difference that Revology’s services are making for their organization. My job is to help standardize this process and build out what these reports will look like, which data sets they will contain, the frequency at which they will be delivered, who will present, who the audience will be, and much more. This project is being prioritized now to make sure that a strong foundation is set moving forward, as the company continues to grow and bring on more clients. Having a standard structure for this process will ensure that clients
are getting the information they are seeking in a timely manner, and that all Revology employees involved understand the parameters of each report.

Outside of work this summer, I have been enjoying my time in Iowa City, partaking in some of my favorite hobbies, and also trying out some new ones. I continue to spend a lot of my time reading a book, going on runs on the many beautiful trails that are in the area, and am currently training for a triathlon in August, which has me practicing swimming for the first time since high school. I am still doing weekly yoga classes with my roommates, but have also convinced them and some of our classmates to learn tennis with me this summer! In the coming weeks, I am looking forward to continuing these things as well as some traveling to North Carolina and Rhode Island.

As I quickly approach the second half of this internship, I am truly shocked at the amount I have already learned, and it excites me for all of the opportunities that lie ahead.
