Orientation Week 2013

In a brief span of five days, not even the sweltering heat could keep 24 strangers from establishing new-found friendships and class cohesiveness. The class of 2015 kicked off the fall semester with Orientation week, which was filled with various activities and events. Being in a new environment, it took us some time to adjust and become acquainted with new faces. However, as the week progressed, we soon realized this was just the beginning of two incredible years we would share together.

Dr. Vaughn, Professor and Director of the MHA Program, along with Ian Montgomery, Clinical Associate Professor and Executive in Residence, began our semester with the opening convocation. We became very familiar with the formality of introductions such as name, hometown, education, and an interesting fact; by the end I’m sure we had everyone’s bio memorized. However, it wasn't until the outdoor ropes course that we began to step out of our business professional attire into a more relaxed and inviting setting. We thoroughly enjoyed each others' company as we illustrated determination, enthusiasm, and collaboration. We all could agree that the UI High Adventure Challenge Course, group picnic, and the kickball tournament were the highlights of our week and was the beginning of our class camaraderie.

Orientation week was the start of many memories to come; but most importantly, it showed how thoroughly excited everyone is to be a part of the Iowa Health Management & Policy program. At the end of the memorable week, it was evident that we were all here for the same reasons: to become professionals and develop into exceptional healthcare leaders. The Class of 2015 is filled with determined and motivated individuals who are on a path towards continued growth and success with the help of our classmates, professors, and healthcare professionals.

Naudya Chhuon, UIHC Accounting and Financial Services (MHA '25)

This summer, I had the opportunity to be a part of the Finance and Accounting Services team (FAS) at the University of Iowa. My internship allowed me to better understand what it is like to work in finance and accounting, especially within the healthcare industry. From managing a vaccination clinic project to tackling financial models, I got to contribute to some and be a part of some fun projects. One of the highlights of my internship was being the go-to person for all things related to the HPV vaccination clinic with the Population Health team. This project provides Shoes for patients under 13 years old who obtain their 2 nd  dose of the HPV vaccine. I found myself at the center of communication between four different teams, which meant I got to lead meetings, and make sure we were all on the same page. Devante Davis (MHA '24): UCHealth - Southern Region

Hello my name is Devante Davis I am going into my 2 nd year as an MHA student at the University of Iowa!    I am currently interning at UCHEALTH southern region in Colorado Springs, and UCHEALTH mission statement is to Improve lives through providing quality care. My preceptor is Andrew Ritchie the Chief Operation Officer of the UCHEALTH southern region. He great a developing talent while unlocking hiding potential within his interns, and fellow! My favorite project was evaluating what the rest of the world is doing to recover from this global nursing shortage. Summarizing the data and be a part of creating a valuable plan to implement into the UCHEALTH southern region. A few other fun events I attended were the pikes peak annual racing event, viper’s baseball game, the incline!
