Summer Internships: MediRevv

By Connie Lee

Hello All! This summer I am holding the fort down in Iowa City. My internship is at MediRevv, located in Coralville. MediRevv is a revenue cycle management firm specializing in Account Receivables.  Specifically, they work A/Rs from both the self-pay/patient perspective as well as the insurance side. They also do business office outsourcing, consulting, A/R liquidation for system switches, and much more! The organization is young, going on year 7, but growing at a remarkable rate. It was founded by Chris Klitgaard, an Iowa alumnus of both the MHA and MBA programs.

My internship is primarily in Business Intelligence with the Vice President of Technology & Analytics. My main project for the summer is a redesign of the monthly client reporting. Needless to say, I now have a love and appreciation for pivot tables and everything Excel. Some of my other projects include:
  • Office “scrimmage” – Coordinating the physical space and technology move of half of the company within the current building
  • Quality Assurance Analyst – This is a new position that we are creating and filling this summer
  • “Building #2” – MediRevv is currently set to break ground for its 2nd building in October 2013
  • Internal daily reporting on client performance metrics
  • Software upgrade testing
  • Sales team analytics

I have also been given the opportunity to attend many different meetings and events, including client site visits, sales calls, Board meetings, and all levels of leadership meetings. This internship has been a fantastic experience in both revenue cycle and the vendor side of healthcare.

Besides working, I have had a blast this summer traveling and spending time with friends. I’ve also been attempting to run, which is no easy feat in our 90 degree weather! This past week, I attended the Iowa chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s quarterly meeting in Des Moines. Yes, this was for fun and not for work! It was a fantastic networking and learning experience in terms of cost management, upcoming ACA policy changes affecting finance and revenue cycle, and employee payroll administration.
