Hello from Iowa City!  I spent my summer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, completing my administrative internship in Ambulatory Care Operations. Ambulatory Care consists of around 20 areas, with generally the most complex conditions being treated on the main campus. The team is comprised of approx. 1,200 FTEs, most of whom provide direct care or support for in-person visits. The main campus clinics provide post-visit support for encounters that occur at Iowa River Landing (IRL) and the community clinics. This area is responsible for more than 1 million in-person primary encounters per year and additionally provides secondary services including procedures and ancillary visits. My preceptor was Grant Worthington, Director of Ambulatory Operations (Main Campus). Grant is also an Iowa MHA Alum, and a great resource if you’re interested in the outpatient space! Alena Longnecker- University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics (MHA '26)

  Greetings from beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah!  This summer, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to complete my internship with the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics—the sole academic medical center in the state of Utah and one of the largest in the mountain west. The University of Utah Health system is made up of five (soon to be six) hospitals, 12 community health centers, 22 affiliate hospitals, and 54 telehealth sites. The system serves patients across roughly 10% of the continental U.S., with primary service areas including Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and much of Nevada. There are nine interns in our cohort, and each week we’ve had the opportunity to meet with executive leaders and tour various facilities across the health system. I have worked with the System Planning team at the main hospital, which includes three key groups: Strategic Integration, Space Planning, and Operational Project Management. Meg Yellepeddi- Deloitte (MHA '26)

   Hello from Chicago, Illinois!   I am currently in a 10-week internship as a Summer Associate with Deloitte, a consulting firm that provides healthcare consulting services. My first week was filled with onboarding events for Summer Associates, where I had the privilege of meeting and learning about peers from across the United States. These sessions offered a crash course in core consulting skills, great food, and plenty of opportunities to network with Deloitte consultants and leaders, setting a strong foundation for the summer ahead. After onboarding, I joined a project with a large regional health system that was undergoing an Epic implementation to transform its clinical and operational processes. As a Summer Associate supporting both the Project Management Office (PMO) and Organizational Change Management (OCM) teams, I was able to roll up my sleeves and contribute to a variety of high-impact projects that are shaping the future of healthcare delivery.
