DESCRIPTION: 
UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Performance Improvement / Transformation of Care Consultant, UW Medicine. This individual will be responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, facilitation and improvement of UW Medicine operations, systems and processes by applying Toyota Production System (“lean”) principles and other performance improvement techniques. Projects will include analysis and improvements to patient care operations, departmental operations, supply chain, utilization management, clinical documentation, patient flow, and revenue cycle activities. The Analyst will apply lean principles to the UW Medicine system, specifically focused on the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative and the Practice Transformation Network. Through the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative, the federal government will invest $840 million over the next four years to support 150,000 clinicians. With a combination of incentives, tools, and information, the initiative will encourage doctors to team with their peers and others to move from volume-driven systems to value-based, patient-centered, and coordinated health care services. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to achieve progress toward measurable goals, such as improving clinical outcomes, reducing unnecessary testing, achieving cost savings and avoiding unnecessary hospitalizations. The awards are part of a University of Washington Employment comprehensive strategy advanced by the Affordable Care Act to enable new levels of coordination, continuity and integration of care, while transitioning volume-driven systems to value-based, patient-centered, healthcare services. It builds on successful models and programs such as the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Organization Program, Partnership for Patients with Hospital Engagement Networks, and Accountable Care Organizations.

UW Medicine is one of 39 healthcare collaborative networks that will participate in the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative. As a Practice Transformation Network (PTN), UW Medicine will support more than 6,700 clinicians, with potential impact to more than 1.9 million patients. This award positions UW Medicine and the UW Medicine Accountable Care Network in the national spotlight. “UW Medicine is already well on its way toward transforming patient care through the use of the accountable care model to deliver care and improve population health and this grant helps to accelerate our work,” said Paul Ramsey, CEO of UW Medicine.
The Performance Improvement / Transformation of Care Consultant will be responsible for the following areas: 1) Clinical Care Pathways Analysis and Implementation; 2) Planning, 3) Best Practices and Benchmarking; 4) Equipment and Supply Management; 5) Personnel; and, 6) Staff Development.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, health sciences, public health, health administration, business, or related field AND six-to-eight years of experience in project management (preferably in a healthcare setting), strategic planning, project portfolio management, or related organizational management responsibilities.
• Experience making independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within scope of responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience and skills in building positive and productive relationships, and ability to build and manage teams and collaborations under tight time constraints.
• Resilient, agile and able to work in dynamic environment and under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills: verbal and written.
• Demonstrated ability to assess and move forward quickly on multiple fronts and multiple projects.
• Excellent analytic skills to develop assess and implement all operational phases of the projects.
• Experience initiating, recommending and implementing process intervention/changes based upon analysis of data, using Rapid Cycle Improvement strategies.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.

DESIRED:
