This summer I am working as an administrative intern at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center (GRMC) to President and CEO Todd Linden.  GRMC is located in Grinnell, Iowa and is a 49-private bed, non-profit hospital, which has a medical staff of around 40 physicians, more than 425 employees, and over 200 volunteers. GRMC is an affiliate of the Mercy Health Network (MHN) which operates under a joint arrangement between the two largest non-profit catholic healthcare organizations in the United States, Catholic Health Initiative and Trinity Health. As a dual MHA and MPH in Policy student, interning for GRMC has proven to be an unparalleled experiential opportunity. My internship began early May when I traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the annual American Hospital Association members meeting. I have spent the summer as an intern with UnityPoint Health- Trinity in the Quad cities working under the direction of Jay Willsher, VP/Chief Operating Officer of UnityPoint Health- Trinity. This summer has been such an awesome experience for me. I cannot believe how much exposure I have been able to receive in such a short time! I have had the opportunity to shadow Jay every day and participate in any meeting, project, discussion that has interested me.  It is hard to believe how many moving parts and people are really necessary to make a hospital function. The opportunity to spend time with each director has taught me so much. By: Katherine Read Hello Everyone! Once again I am spending my summer working for the University of Iowa Health Alliance. I have now been working with this group for nearly 1 ½ years. It has been an amazing opportunity to begin with an organization just getting started and to see the development through the months. The University of Iowa Health Alliance (UIHA) is a group of hospitals in Iowa that are working together to address population health at a state level and to venture into new opportunities that will benefit Iowa. The organization is comprised of Mercy Health Network out of Des Moines, the University of Iowa out of Iowa City, Mercy Clinics out of Cedar Rapids, Genesis from the Quad Cities, and the most recent addition of Wheaton Franciscan out of Waterloo.
