Maggie Mogensen - Ebenezer Senior Living (MHA '27)

Hello from Minneapolis, Minnesota!

This summer, I have had the opportunity to complete an internship with Ebenezer, Minnesota's largest senior living operator. Ebenezer is a nonprofit organization in partnership with Fairview Health Services, operating more than 120 locations across six states. Our communities and services include cooperatives, condominiums, independent living, assisted living, memory care, adult day programs, rehabilitation (short-term skilled nursing), nursing homes (long-term skilled nursing), and affordable senior living apartments.

During my internship, I have had the privilege of working alongside CEO Brett Anderson and Vice President of Strategy and Performance Mia Taney. I have been involved in several process and quality improvement initiatives, including participating in skilled nursing quality workshops, attending skilled nursing monthly QAPI meetings, and helping standardize QAPI practices among all skilled nursing sites. Additionally, Ebenezer launched an enterprise-wide project management committee (EES) where I have contributed by collaborating with organizational leadership, developing project prioritization scoring criteria, developing a project intake form, and developing and testing a standardized project lookback tool.

One of the most valuable experiences during my internship has been the opportunity to shadow Barbara Mekenye, Campus Administrator, and Anna Olinger, Transitional Care Unit Administrator, at Aurora on France. Spending time with them has provided meaningful insight into the responsibilities of their roles and given me a clearer understanding of a potential career path post-graduation. Throughout the week, I participated in daily leadership meetings, attended resident council, observed and engaged in filing a vulnerable adult report, and took part in staff interviews. I also gained insight into operational and financial management through the Eldermark month-end close process and leadership discussions with department managers. This experience has broadened my understanding of healthcare leadership and reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in senior living administration.

Outside of work, I have enjoyed spending my summer at home and making the most of my time with family and friends. I have attended several Timberwolves and Twins games, gone to concerts, spent time at my family's cabin in Chetek, Wisconsin, and enjoyed catching up with friends. I am grateful for the opportunity to enjoy the summer at home while gaining valuable professional experience through my internship at Ebenezer. I am looking forward to the rest of the summer in Minnesota!
