Natalie Cargin - University of Iowa Health Care Ambulatory Services (MHA '27)

Hello friends!

My name is Natalie Cargin, and I am currently the administrative intern under Tom Mulrooney at the University of Iowa Health Care’s University Campus (MCU)! Tom is the Chief Administrative Officer of Ambulatory Services throughout the enterprise, covering MCU, MCD, MCNL, IRL, and Community Clinics.


Throughout my internship, I have spent a lot of time shadowing Tom, getting a front-row seat to all the amazing work he does for UI Health Care. This has allowed me to meet people from all throughout the organization, from the executive team to frontline staff. I have also had the opportunity to sit in on countless meetings, learning about everything going on in the ambulatory world. 


Some of my most valuable experiences have been working on business plans for large capital projects, developing a governance meeting structure for department leadership, and shadowing several clinic managers to learn about day-to-day operations in different settings. I also was able to watch a few Mohs surgeries, which was definitely a highlight of my summer.


Outside of the hospital, I have enjoyed spending time with family and friends, including my fellow Iowa MHAs who are here for the summer. I have been booked and busy with weekend trips, downtown festivities, and outdoor activities, including bike riding with my fiancé. My favorite part of the summer was getting to celebrate one of my best friends getting married! 



Overall, I am very grateful for all of the amazing opportunities and experiences that this summer has given me. I have grown professionally in many ways, and I am excited to carry all the lessons I have learned into the next chapter of my career.

Hello from Sterling, Illinois! I have had the amazing experience of interning at CGH Medical Center in my hometown. CGH Medical Center is progressive acute care facility that has been serving the community since 1909. Jashan Gill (MHA '24): University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics - Ambulatory Care Operations

Hello from Iowa City!  I spent my summer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, completing my administrative internship in Ambulatory Care Operations. Ambulatory Care consists of around 20 areas, with generally the most complex conditions being treated on the main campus. The team is comprised of approx. 1,200 FTEs, most of whom provide direct care or support for in-person visits. The main campus clinics provide post-visit support for encounters that occur at Iowa River Landing (IRL) and the community clinics. This area is responsible for more than 1 million in-person primary encounters per year and additionally provides secondary services including procedures and ancillary visits. Caden Rasmus - Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic (MHA '27)

Hello from Iowa City! My name is Caden Rasmus, and this summer I had the opportunity to complete my internship as an AmeriCorps Service Member serving at the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic. This nonprofit has been helping serve the uninsured and underinsured population with medical needs since 1971. The Iowa City Free Medical Clinic (ICFMC) is the second oldest continuously operating free medical clinic in the United States. The primarily volunteer-based clinic provides care for chronic and acute conditions, women's health, gynecology appointments, dentistry, and an in-house pharmacy that handles many basic medication orders. This unique nine-month internship has continued to be filled with exciting experiences. My role at the Free Medical Clinic is Super User and Project Manager.
